Lockheed offers a darn good health insurance plan; included in the plan is prescription drug coverage, which can mean the world to some and save others hundreds of dollars. Whether your health care plan is through Aetna, Cigna, or CareFirst (BCBS), your prescription drug coverage is managed by CVS Caremark which provides a separate prescription benefit ID card.
Even though your prescription drug plan is managed by CVS Caremark, that doesn’t mean you can only go to a CVS pharmacy. Did you know there are over 230 pharmacies that are in the CVS Caremark network? You can find the alphabetized list here and find one closest to you here. This is great news for you because it allows you the flexibility to fill your prescriptions at a location that’s most convenient for you. All you need is your benefit ID card!
Like most health plans, there are some basic guidelines to follow in order to keep your out-of-pocket cost down because if you don’t, it could mean the difference between you potentially paying $4 – $80 for a 30-day supply or $10 – $200 for a 90-day supply of your medications. So, what are the rules you ask? Here are the basics but you’ll want to make sure you read your Pharmacy Schedule of Benefits to get all the details.
- Use a network pharmacy
- Use your ID card at the pharmacy
- Use a generic drug when available
- Have your doctor write “DAW1” on your prescription when a generic drug isn’t available (DAW1 means dispense as written)
- Know what’s not covered
- Get prior authorization when necessary
There you have it. Another great benefit of being a Lockheed Martin employee – a prescription drug plan that saves you money and your life.
